Every two years, Colectivo84 and the Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente partner up, alongside several other cultural and educational institutions in Coimbra, to organize the Encounter of New Dramaturgies (END Festival) - a groundbreaking event that aims to promote new and contemporary forms of stage writing.
In previous editions, the END Festival proposed a three-day program featuring lectures, conversations, debates, workshops, readings and staged productions that foreground the new Portuguese dramaturgy and the role of the (living) author in every creation.
The first edition took in place at the São Luiz Municipal Theatre (Lisbon, PT), in 2010. The Festival moved to Coimbra in 2015, having been produced at the Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente ever since. 2021 marks the 10th anniversary of the Encounter of New Dramaturgies, which has prompted Colectivo84 and its institutional partners to program and organize a three-week festival across three cities that will present the work of up-and-coming playwrights and creators across theatre, dance, and performance.
The 5th edition will also feature a four-month course (END+) in 2020, where participants will attend workshops, lectures, and debates with different renowned instructors in the Portuguese theatre scene. At the same time they will have the opportunity to develop their personal project, alongside an assigned mentor, and invited to present their work at the 2021 END Festival.
