MICKAËL DE OLIVEIRA

Mickaël de Oliveira was born in France, in 1984. He currently lives in Porto. In 2013, he got his PhD in Portuguese Contemporary Dramaturgy from the University of Lisbon and he is a post-doctoral fellow in the same institution. 

​

In 2009, Mickael co-founded Colectivo84, his writing and directing home for the past decade. In 2007, he was awarded the Maria Matos Playwriting Prize (Maria Matos Municipal Theatre, Lisbon) for O que É Teu Entregou aos Mortais and in 2009 his text Clytemnestra got a Honorable Mention at the António José da Silva Luso-Brazilian Prize (D. Maria II National Theatre, Lisbon / FUNARTE, Brasil).

His latest writing and/or directing credits include Oslo - Fuck the All and everything will be wonderful (2016, co-created with Nuno M Cardoso/ Gil Vicente Academic Theatre, São Luiz Municipal Theatre), The Constitution (2016, D. Maria II National Theatre), the diptych Socrates Must Die (2017/18, Centro Cultural Vila Flor, São Luiz Municipal Theatre, Viriato Theatre, Gil Vicente Academic Theatre), My Favorite Suicide (2019, Anthony Meindl Actor's Workshop, Los Angeles), and Hantologia (2019, co-created with Nuno M Cardoso/ Gil Vicente Academic Theatre).

In 2015, he saw the first volume of his Complete Works published by Húmus.

He is the artistic director of the biennial Festival END (Encounter of New Dramaturgies), an event that seeks to promote contemporary Portuguese playwriting and whose first edition took place in 2010 (São Luiz Municipal Theatre, Lisbon). The festival has been held at the Gil Vicente Academic Theatre since 2015.

Mickael has held teaching positions at the University of Coimbra, Lisbon Theatre and Film School, and the Leiria Polytechnic Institute. He served as assistant artistic director of the Gil Vicente Academic Theatre between 2011 and 2015.
